Welsh language social video views for S4C grow >200% in Q4 2016

Grabyo partner S4C has doubled its social video views for video content that the Welsh language television channel makes available via social media sites.

The viewing figures for S4C, the only Welsh-language TV channel in the world, doubled from over a million to over two million in just three months. By working with Grabyo, S4C can share clips from its unique programming across multiple social pages. Making content available to a Welsh audience in real-time, using a simple, effective platform for content distribution, has been a driving force behind the recent rise in viewing figures.

Generating social video views

S4C broadcasts over 115 hours of programs each week, including sport, drama, music, factual, entertainment and events, across a range of platforms. S4C offers comprehensive services for children: Cyw for younger viewers, Stwnsh for older children and programs for teenagers. The programs are available in HD on Sky and Freesat in Wales and across the UK.

Since implementing a new digital production workflow within S4C’s social media team in October 2015, the number of views for video content on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube has increased markedly – reaching the million mark in September 2016, before breaking the two million mark in December.

Gwyn Williams, S4C Director of Communication said: “This astounding increase shows that our strategy of targeting viewers on these platforms is working and obviously people like browsing and viewing a wide variety of material.”

“Over the year we’ve had numerous items that have proved very popular, but during December the single most popular item was a traditional carol sung by Sorela called “Ar gyfer heddiw’r bore. The one that has broken every record is the Wales football team’s message of thanks to the nation after the UEFA Euro 2016 championship last summer, which has been viewed over 180,000 times.”
