Grabyo in 2022: A year in review

As we approach the end of 2022, we wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on what has been a productive and exciting year for our team.

We’ve supported many of the world’s leading broadcasters, rights holders, sports teams, federations and media organizations to produce and deliver impactful video content across social media, OTT platforms, broadcast TV and online.

We’ve also released a number of game-changing features – not just for Grabyo, but for video production workflows and the wider broadcast and media industry.

2023 promises to be a big one. But for now, let’s look back…

In 2022, 300,000 more clips were shared to social platforms using Grabyo than in 2021. We also supported 7,000 more live productions this year than last. 

Witnessing our platform used to its full potential makes us immensely proud. These results validate our mission – to make video production simpler and more cost-effective by moving workflows to the cloud, alongside equipping media organizations with the tools to deliver video content at the right time, optimized for the right platform and screen.

The case studies

Southampton F.C: Fan-led matchday shows

Southampton F.C creates interactive live streams using Grabyo Producer, which it broadcasts across its social channels, club website and app before and after its matches.

Using Grabyo Producer’s direct integration with Dizplai, fans can contribute comments and questions which appear on screen and dictate talking points for the hosts and guests.

Each SAINTSLIVE broadcast generates high levels of engagement for the club’s channels through these contributing comments. The club has created an online meeting place for fans all over the world, which is managed by only three or four people at a time.

Asiaworks: Producing a tier-one financial conference

Over the course of two years, leading production agency Asiaworks used Grabyo Producer to deliver two virtual conferences for a large client in the financial sector. The agency needed to quickly establish the usually well-attended in-person event in a virtual setting.

They achieved this by creating a live, interactive TV station for the event, building studios in Hong Kong and Singapore, with remote guests and panellists appearing virtually from around the world.

Instant Replay

At IBC 2022 we debuted our latest feature upgrade to Grabyo Producer: Instant replay. It was built to facilitate and add another dimension to productions of all sizes. 

You don’t need a large team or expensive hardware and equipment to create broadcast-quality live productions with instant replay. Whether you have replay operators, high-frame-rate cameras or not, using Grabyo you can bring high-production value to your live content.

Coming up: Super slow-mo

We also shared a sneak peek of some R&D we’re been doing behind the scenes here at Grabyo. We’re excited to have completed a PoC of super slow-motion in our platform and are looking to release it in the future!

Media Players

Another feature we released this year was media players – another step in rebuilding the OB truck experience in a web browser. 

Media players in Grabyo Producer work like hardware-based ones, only you have much more flexibility and a seamless workflow for bringing VOD assets on air. 

Speaking of assets – we also built real-time, interactive drag-and-drop scene building tools to boot.

You can now send videos to your TikTok account for instant editing and publishing.

Grabyo users can now post Instagram Reels directly from Grabyo Studio.

2023 and beyond

2023 will mark Grabyo’s 10th birthday, and what a decade it has been so far. Since we launched our first live clipping tools in 2013, the broadcast industry has come a long way from solely relying on hardware-based systems and improved multi-platform distribution. 

We’d like to think we have played a large role in this evolution – and we’re not done yet. We have a slate of new features planned for 2023 (contact us for more information) that will continue our industry down the path to a more efficient, eco-friendly and flexible future.
