Facebook Live and Grabyo announce new features for broadcasters

Facebook today announced its latest updates to the Facebook Live API, which include support for high-quality broadcasts, increased stream redundancy and frame accurate start points. Grabyo is delighted to be able to support them, ensuring our partners can deliver a seamless, premium-quality live video experience for Facebook.

Facebook has made the move to support 1080p streams as a platform wide feature and automatically adjusts settings to ensure the best broadcast output. Previously available to a small number of publishers partners, now all users can deliver a TV-quality live stream to Facebook. Broadcasting in 1080p is already supported by Twitter Live and YouTube Live (up to 4k) and it is a logical step for Facebook as it looks to secure more premium, high quality live video for users.

To accommodate partners who want to deliver these premium live broadcasts, Grabyo now supports high fidelity (8Mbs/1080p) live stream outputs and multiple levels of redundancy. This is key for publishers looking to create shows for platforms such as Facebook Watch and Twitter Live, where consistent delivery is crucial.

With Grabyo Producer, partners now have the flexibility to create a purpose-built show for a social audience, including the addition of multiple live feeds, pre-recorded video assets, real-time social comments, polls, data and graphics optimized for social viewing – a powerful, but cost-effective alternative to traditional broadcast hardware & software.

Facebook will discuss these latest updates to the Live API at IBC this week, where Grabyo will be in attendance showcasing our latest developments in cloud-video production, editing and distribution. Team Grabyo will also be on hand to demonstrate the launch of our latest product capabilities: live and on-demand 360 video and automated clip creation directly from Grabyo to social and digital channels in real-time. This new capability includes integration with OPTA Sports, using live sports data to create automatic highlights from event-based triggers.
