Live production updates: The 2023 highlights
We have added a range of new updates to Grabyo Producer this year. This list is not exhaustive by any means, but covers some of our favorite new features of 2023.
Multi-platform live ad insertion
We introduced multi-platform live ad insertion to Grabyo Producer, including support for SCTE-35 marker insertion and YouTube RTMP On-Cue ad marker insertion.
Grabyo users can now create ad breaks to monetize their live video across linear broadcast, FAST and OTT platforms, all in one workflow.
Cloud-based audio mixing
We released a new broadcast-grade audio mixer that supports up to 64 channels within Grabyo Producer.
You can receive, mix and send signals in mono, stereo or 5.1 surround sound. Applying trim, creating sub-mixes and routing it all through channel strips is done in just a couple of clicks or through any mapped MIDI controller.
Control Room 2.0
We’ve streamlined camera switching and added more customization options to give users more speed and control during live productions.
This includes one-click split switching for taking sources into program/preview, with added touchscreen support. You can also apply display settings to groups of sources simultaneously with set automation rules.
Multi-action key bindings
You can now perform up to 20 actions with a single keystroke, which means you can streamline your live production, save yourself time and customize your workflow to the nth degree.
In the example here, we had two relatively simple key bindings set up to give you a flavour of what is possible.
Dynamic transitions
We’ve also added more customizable transition options for switching. Dynamic transitions allow you to create seamless transitions using graphics and video feeds that seemingly interact with each other.
Dynamically transition to picture-in-picture layouts, perform squeezebacks and more.
Hardware integrations
You can now use any keyboard or MIDI Controller to produce live broadcasts in Grabyo. MIDI controllers come in all shapes and sizes to fit your production requirements and budget.
This integration works by configuring or ‘mapping’ inputs from your device to actions within Producer.
Live clipping updates: The 2023 highlights
In 2023, we introduced human-centred AI and updates to Grabyo Studio that empowers digital teams to create more content for social and digital channels at speed and scale.
AI-assisted clipping and highlights production
We have built a human-centered automated clipping and publishing workflow in partnership with Magnifi. The partnership combines our live clipping, editing and publishing platform with Magnifi’s automated highlights production solution, which uses cutting-edge machine learning and computer vision technologies, enabling sports organizations to capture, edit and publish highlight clips from live sports broadcasts at speed, and at scale.
This partnership aims to maximize the efficiency and speed of both platforms while keeping humans at the center of storytelling. We’re enabling enhanced creativity, which makes automated content more engaging and relevant to audiences. We’ll continue to develop the functionality of this partnership and have some even more exciting updates to come in 2024.
Multi-stream live clipping
Our multi-stream live clipping feature allows you to monitor and clip from up to nine simultaneously. This allows our users to produce and publish more content at speed, using fewer resources.
With multiple streams selected, you have various views to choose from. You can monitor each stream in a grid view or bring specific streams into focus using the hero view. What’s more – you can create clips in multiple aspect ratios in the same view.
Rise 2023: Supporting women in broadcast
This year, we were proud to support multiple initiatives by Rise, a group for gender diversity in the broadcast industry. We also launched our own initiative to support women in the broadcast and media industry.
Our CloudLab initiative, in partnership with Rise, gives women access to the training and resources they need to learn and master live production in the cloud. Our very first 2023 cohort was awarded their 101 Cloud Production accreditation, plus our own Clare Butler will be a Rise Mentor once again in 2024!
Looking ahead
Work is already underway for some transformative updates coming to Grabyo in 2024. We continue to work with our customers to leverage AI and automation to streamline workflows while retaining the art of storytelling across live production and live clipping.
We’re planning to release many major updates to enhance multi-platform live broadcasting across broadcast, FAST, OTT and social platforms. As our industry continues to look for ways to reduce cost and increase productivity, cloud production will become a critical tool for production, digital and marketing teams. We look forward to working with everyone next year to continue pushing the limits of cloud production and shape the future of video production.
