Grabyo Spotlight New York 2024: The Wrap Up

The Grabyo Spotlight event series is designed to bring together industry leaders and professionals from across the broadcast, media and sports industries to share insights, challenges and ideas for delivering the best possible experience for audiences.

Our events are strictly closed-door, Chatham House rules which make for honest and open conversations from the world’s biggest media organizations, technology companies and more.

We had a blast hosting everyone in New York last week for our latest edition, in partnership with our friends at AWS. Let’s hear from some of our attendees on their thoughts and takeaways!

“As an event under Chatham House rules with no media, it was fantastic to hear such honest and open conversations from the panelists. We didn’t spend a lot of time talking about technology, we talked about what is possible – how you can create new stories, new formats and new experiences for fans. Not worrying about what makes it work, but focused on the outcomes. What makes the content more relevant and authentic to audiences by asking yourself, who are you talking to? Why does it matter to them? What platforms are they on?

The feedback we’ve had is that our attendees enjoyed how open and honest and forward-looking our talks are about what’s happening in the industry. It’s important across any industry, for people who may have been working the same way for a long time, to have an environment where ideas and thoughts can be expressed freely. TV production hasn’t changed in a long time, it has a solid set of processes, structure and technology that delivers an experience that audiences like and can rely on, and changing that does come with some trepidation.

But what we’re seeing now is changes in distribution models and how we watch content as consumers, as such there needs to be change in how production happens too. With live cloud production, people are seeing now that it isn’t just possible, it’s happening and creating new opportunities for audience engagement and live broadcasting experiences that people want to watch. You don’t have to break the bank, it works and you can trust it. It’s not something new that you have to go and learn, it’s an opportunity to do things differently, and often better.”

“This event allows us to better understand what customers are looking for in terms of use cases and activations, which helps to shape our partnership with Grabyo.

The speakers were super engaging in talking about case studies that everybody can relate to, and what they can implement in their own use cases and job. It was all very conversational and open.

My key takeaway was understanding how customers are utilizing the cloud to do more with less and getting away from hardware and heavy infrastructure environments.”

“I think the biggest trend that will have an impact on live production is AI, and I was really impressed with the panel discussion on AI. I didn’t realize how far along AI was and it was great to hear from people who are on the forefront give us real-life examples of how AI can enhance live production and social media content, that really resonated with me.

I really enjoyed the opportunity to sit alongside colleagues and peers in the industry, and have a mix of people from both the storytelling side of the business with folks on the technology side. It’s a rare setting to get those two groups together. Everyone was very candid about what they shared and it was a wonderful environment.

The Grabyo product is a great tool for us to produce content that wouldn’t necessarily get produced in a traditional way.

I think it opens up the door for a lot of events and projects that couldn’t be funded in a way to support a traditional broadcast. Now, there are a lot of events and sports that have the chance to get out there. There are lots of efficiencies and it’s delivering cost-savings for primary productions now, but the main positive is that it’s giving broadcast production to a lot of sports that don’t get a lot of coverage.”

“I thought the event was great, some really insightful panels. It was great to hear from a range of people on the production side to the property side, with a collection of people working together to network with colleagues and share best practices, to get ideas about what they’re doing and what you’re doing and compare notes. In today’s hybrid working environment its great to touch base.

My biggest takeaway is that production is always evolving, and becoming less complicated. You don’t need production trucks and tonnes of cameras, it’s getting much more efficient. It’s great for everyone, and improves the quality of content you can produce on a manageable budget.”

“The Grabyo Spotlight event was awesome. The best part was everyone in the room, whether on the panels or in the audience, are all doing impactful stuff across the media, broadcast and sports industry.

It’s great getting everyone in a room talking and listening to one another, and it’s rare to get that – having these authentic conversations where everyone is open about what they’re working on, the trends they see and the problems they’re facing. We all just want to make better content, and everyone in the room wants to make that happen.

My biggest takeaway is that we’re going to need support on content creation from our friend, AI. It’s going to be a symbiotic relationship between the people running the shows and how AI and Gen-AI help elevate the storytelling. There are some incredible things that companies are building right now, and it’s going to be exciting to see how we blend AI with what we’re already doing.”
