THE RACE FOR SOCIAL VIDEO PUBLISHING

Humans vs. Robots

Automated live clipping vs human storytelling – who comes out on top?

An infographic showing a race between humans and robots to find out if automated live clipping or human clipping is faster and better at storytelling. In many areas of business, automation tools are streamlining processes and increasing output by replacing manual tasks. In video clipping and publishing this offering, at face value, seems invaluable. But is automation the silver bullet for publishing high-quality video at speed? Let’s put humans vs robots to the test. In two teams of two, one driver and one clipping operator, we’ll host a one-lap Grand Prix race to see who can get to the finish line with the best coverage. Robots take an early lead out of the first corner with an overtake. Using automated data inputs and machine learning, robots quickly clip the moment and publish it to all relevant social platforms. The post contains a factual caption: “Robots overtake - Corner 1”. The humans are not far behind, posting their highlight of the overtake a few moments later with a tailored social post: “Robots take an early lead in the Humans vs Robots GP. Still a long way to go.” The humans outmanoeuvre the robots on a tight corner and take the lead. This sparks celebrations from the crowd. A handful of fans run down from the stands to cheer at the track as the cars pass by. The humans publish the overtake clip, followed by a clip of the crowd celebration and another covering the fans by the track moments later, showcasing the emotions track-side.   The robots post a clip of the overtake with the caption “Humans overtake - Corner 2”. It’s neck-and-neck entering a tough chicane into the home straight. Both teams clip and publish the moment in vertical format. The robots send their clip out first and nudge in front. Their car darts in and out of frame before following it cleanly onto the straight.   The human’s clip follows the car throughout the chicane and onto the straight, capturing the moment the humans edge past the robots once again to take the lead. While the robots are faster, they missed critical moments to capture the full story of the race. They also needed more finesse in optimizing clips for vertical.   The humans, while slightly slower, were able to capture every moment and maneuver through the story of the race more effectively.   Humans win the race in a photo-finish.
