Grabyo launches new audio mixer for live video production in the cloud

Following the release of Grabyo’s browser-based multiviewer late last year, it has taken another step forwards in delivering broadcast-quality live production tools in the cloud as the technology company adds a new audio service to its platform.

Broadcasters, rights holders and publishers are rapidly adopting a fully remote or hybrid production workflow, with the advantage of cloud-native broadcast tools such as Grabyo allowing production crews to work from anywhere and collaborate in real-time.

Unlike traditional audio mixer hardware, Grabyo’s audio mixer can be operated remotely and can be customized for the needs of individual users and events. The first release of the service supports precise dBFS level monitoring, the ability to set volume, gain and pan and mute, listen to audio sources independently using pre-fade, after-fade or output listening and create and manage audio layers. Grabyo’s audio mixer can support a large number of individual audio sources per event, with the option to add multiple audio mixers and vision mixers for the same event if required.

The company plans to release further updates to its audio mixer, aiming to bring the capabilities of traditional, hardware-based audio mixers into its platform, adding the flexibility and scalability of configuring the service on-demand for live events.

Cloud production enables hi-fidelity broadcasting to all major digital platforms, as well as TV. These services have enabled broadcasters and publishers to keep content on-air during the last year, facilitating social distancing regulations by reducing the amount of on-prem equipment needed for live productions, which also lowers the cost of live broadcasts. The trend towards distributed production is set to continue beyond the pandemic given the benefits in scalability, cost optimisation, sustainability and work-life balance for production teams.

Removing the need for high upfront capex costs to purchase production hardware and software, with upgrades limited by infrastructure capacity and a slow release cycle, production teams utilizing cloud services are instantly scaling production capability and workflows during an unpredictable time for the broadcast industry. Grabyo’s audio mixer provides additional scope to transform the live production landscape.
