The Temple of Zoom

More than 200,000 Buddhist devotees gathered via Zoom to celebrate Makha Bucha Day, one of the most important holidays in the religion. The event, which would usually be held at Dhammakaya Temple on the outskirts of Bangkok, was instead held on a 280-meter long LED screen, which allowed for devotees to virtually attend due to the pandemic. More than 200,000 people attended the ceremony which consisted of an annual prayer and lantern ritual.

The Malaysian Netball Association partners with Astro

The Malaysian Netball Association has partnered with Astro to deliver the inaugural season of the Netball Super League. The competition runs from March 19 to April 11. Alwiyah Talib, president of the association, believes that getting Netball onto such a major broadcaster in Malaysia will allow women to showcase their talents in a way they have not been able to before. This comes as part of the Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry initiative to develop women’s sport in the country. The Netball Super League will be broadcast live to millions of viewers on Astro, with the aim to transform the sport into a phenomenon in Malaysia, competing with other major Netball countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Jamaica.
