Here are Grabyo’s favorite content production ideas and digital news from around the sports and broadcast industry over the past weeks.
The past month saw some large annual events taking place in the US. The SuperBowl took place in a scaled back fashion in Tampa, with healthcare and emergency service workers in attendance. The famous halftime show was performed by The Weeknd to a large global audience. Disney is growing its presence in the OTT market with the inclusion of Star on the Disney+ streaming platform. Award season is underway, with the Golden Globes taking place from home. A small audience in attendance saw guests join the award ceremony via video call from their homes. The PGA tour turned red and black to show tribute to Tiger Woods following his car accident. Coverage included player interviews as well as clips from the action across the course.
The Weeknd’s halftime show
Everything at this year’s Super Bowl was different. Limited fans, a scaled back halftime show and muted celebrations. This didn’t stop fans wanting to be part of the action. The halftime show was performed by Canadian singer-songwriter, The Weeknd, and was performed in one of the empty parts of the stadium as well as on the pitch. The full performance has been viewed over 30 million times on the NFL’s Youtube channel since airing live during the Superbowl.
Disney+ and Star
As Disney continues its expansion in the OTT market, Star has been added to the Disney+ streaming platform. As the OTT strategy shifts to include a more mature market, the content, including box sets and feature films for adults, has been added to complement the classic Disney films. The update has also added some additional features, including parental locks, similar to that of other popular streaming platforms. The price for the early-adopters of the platform won’t be increased but with the addition of Star the price point is closer to that of Disney’s main OTT competitors.

Golden Globes from home
The Golden Globes took place virtually this year. A small audience was in attendance, with tickets being offered to emergency services workers and healthcare staff. The presenters were on-stage but spoke with the winners and nominees via video calls. Things didn’t go exactly to plan, with a few technical mishaps. The most common one being Daniel Kaluuya having his microphone on mute during his acceptance speech.
Red and black for Tiger
In a fitting tribute to Tiger Woods following his car accident, the players on the PGA Tour donned their finest black and red golf attire. The tour had comprehensive coverage of the weekend’s play including player tributes to Tiger Woods and the action from across the course.
