IGN’s Summer of Gaming event reached 13.2 million gaming fans daily with multi-platform broadcasts across social media, digital and console apps.
Following the cancellation of E3 2020, IGN, a world leader in games and entertainment media, hosted its very first ‘Summer of Gaming’, a series of live virtual events designed to give fans access to the latest news and analysis of video games and next-gen console hardware.
To deliver the event’s regular live programming completely remotely, IGN leveraged its partnership with Grabyo.
Using Grabyo’s advanced live production platform, IGN’s production team was able to produce engaging multi-platform broadcasts from anywhere in the world. Delivered across all of IGN’s digital channels, including its website, social media, console and mobile apps, the events included a range of live game reveals, interviews and challenges to give gaming fans deep insight into the latest releases.
By serving fans with a truly multi-platform Summer of Gaming, IGN was able to bring the gaming expo experience to more people than ever before, reaching 13.2 million people daily worldwide and achieving over 278 million video views.
Fans were able to access the live broadcasts, including Sony’s full PS5 reveal, across any of their devices, and interact with other fans in real-time watching IGN’s live social broadcasts, creating a community-based experience.
The production team also used Grabyo’s browser-based clipping tools to remotely deliver real-time highlights to fans who couldn’t watch along live. Engagement peaks when content is live, and IGN ensured that fans could engage with the Summer of Gaming from home at any time that suits them.
We’re at a time where many people are turning towards video games for entertainment and escapism. With major manufacturers introducing the next-generation of consoles and the games that accompany them, we wanted to give gaming fans, plus our audience and partners, a truly memorable experience to enjoy while everyone is still staying at home. Without Grabyo it wouldn’t have been possible to reach the scale that we did – reaching fans all over the world across our platforms. We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved and the response has been fantastic.” Dave Toole, Senior Director of Video Production at IGN
