The Super Bowl, Grammys and BAFTAS may have dominated social media this week combining for well over 100 billion impressions, yet amidst the glitz and glamor of these events, Grabyo partners excelled at reaching audiences through live social video.
The Copa del Rey edged closer to its conclusion with the semi final second legs between Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Celta Vigo and Alaves. LaLiga broadcast both matches from the oldest Spanish Cup competition to Facebook Live through its Facebook page. LaLiga took full advantage of its available rights to broadcast the games in available territories.
While much has made about the migration of sports audiences away from TV by taking the Copa del Rey to Facebook Live, LaLiga received over 3.8 million views for both matches.
The match between Celta Vigo and Alaves drew the biggest audience, with over two million viewers tuning in to watch the live broadcast. By using Facebook Live as a distribution platform for these matches, LaLiga were able to increase the viewership of a game between two teams that collectively have under 510k Facebook followers.
Chelsea Football Club used Facebook Live to premiere an episode of its original content 'Friday Night Live' featuring players Willian and David Luiz. The twenty-minute show, produced for Chelsea TV, received half a million viewers and generated thousands of comments, interactions and questions for the two Brazilian players. This type of digital first production for social media allows interaction between fans and clubs that is unreachable through a traditional broadcast.
