EMEA digital news roundup

Here are some of our favorite content production ideas from around the sports and broadcast industry over the past weeks.

As people are looking for some uplifting entertainment over the past few weeks, there is an abundance of innovative content. A constant message in much of the content is fundraising and charity. As events continue moving into the virtual world there has been the 2.6 challenge, the big night in and tennis stars playing Mario.

The Big Night In
Combining two giants of TV fundraising, Comic Relief and Children In Need teamed up to create The Big Night In. The evening saw some classic British comedy reimagined from actors’ homes as well as music artists performing from their living rooms. The content was stitched together for an evening of laughs and entertainment. Aiming to bring people some light-hearted entertainment whilst encouraging them to stay at home – the evening raised over £27million pounds

Formula E x UNICEF
Formula E has partnered with UNICEF to support the global coronavirus appeal. The partnership includes the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge in support of UNICEF. A nine-week esports competition taking place every Saturday will feature the drivers on the circuit as well as a selection of top gamers.

2.6 Challenge
The London Marathon is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year, due to take place on 26th April and expected to raise over £60 million for charity. In a bid to help support the charities in the absences of the marathon, the 2.6 challenge was created. People could complete an activity with a subset of 2.6. Athletes, celebrities, TV personalities all got involved to complete the challenge and raise money for charity.

Mario Tennis Ace
Esports has been on the rise in the past few weeks and tennis is no different. Launched at the end of April, The Stay at Home Slam saw the Williams sisters compete against each other on Mario Tennis Ace with celebrity doubles partners. These included Gigi Hadid and Hailey Beiber. The event had live commentary from John McEnroe and Justine Ezarik. The tournament was won by TikTok star Addison Rae and pro tennis player Taylor Fritz.

Copa90 with Mount and Rice
Copa90 has been running a content series with Rio Ferdinand and Premier League footballers. Part of the FIFA20 Stay and Play campaign the series provides an insight into life outside of football as well as testing their FIFA20 skills.

“Someone superglued his trainers to the floor” 🤣🤣@_DeclanRice and @masonmount_10 open up about their best pranks…including THAT Rice reaction when he was asleep. 😱#StayAndPlay pic.twitter.com/Peqw7s6EMr
