Here are Grabyo’s favorite content production ideas from around the sports and broadcast industry over the past weeks.
One of the biggest stories in sport and broadcast over the past few weeks is the return of live sport. Across Europe football is returning, as well as horse racing and snooker with many others to follow soon. During this hiatus, ITV kept football fans engaged with a full re-run of Euro 96 fantastic use of the archive!
Whilst sport is one of the first forms of live entertainment to return, other events are being adapted for online production. Last week the SVG Europe awards were presented as live on their YouTube channel, while MTV created an ‘MTV Cribs: Footballers Staying Home’ special edition. Innovative content is being produced and as lockdown is beginning to ease, teams are getting increasingly creative.
Goal Box
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League ended with a few games still to be played. In the absence of matches, Barclays Football created a talk show series featuring ambassadors Ian Wright and Kelly Smith, Goal Box. Each episode the pair welcome a star of the league to discuss their best goals of the season. Stars have included leading goal scorer Vivianne Miedema and Bethany England.
SVG Europe Awards
SVG Europe was to have its Sports OTT Forum and Sports TV Awards at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The whole ceremony was moved online and broadcast ‘as live’ on their YouTube channel. The awards included branded backdrops and guest appearances to make it feel as close to the real thing as possible. With many future events canceled, this could be a format that we get used to seeing over the coming months.
Euro 96
ITV maximized its archive and played every game of Euro96 on its OTT platform, ITV Hub. As football is returning to competitive action across Europe the TV channel allowed fans to re-live the highs and lows of the tournament. The games were accessible online with highlights available for some of the matches.

MTV Cribs
MTV Cribs has been running for over 20 years, but without the usual access to camera crews and houses, the program had to adapt. Footballers Staying Home has been created. The footballers walk around the inside of their homes and do a virtual tour of their house, showing the shirts, shoes and cool gadgets they have at their dispense during the lockdown. Stars have included Arsenal duo David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester United’s Jessie Lingard, alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Axel Witsel.

Liverpool Connect
As part of Liverpool Connect, Jürgen Klopp and the LFC Foundation have been surprising fans who have been shielding and isolating themselves for the past few months. Speaking to the fans from his home, the Liverpool manager checked in on how fans were doing and reminisced about good memories such as their Champions League victory in Madrid. You don’t need to be a Liverpool fan for this to bring you a smile.
