At Facebook’s F8 Developers Conference, Grabyo announced the launch of a new graphics capability which integrates web apps with live video. The first release of this product supports social comments and data overlays to Facebook Live broadcasts.
The release is the first of a series of updates to Producer – the latest addition to Grabyo's suite of comprehensive cloud-based video production, editing and distribution tools – allowing Grabyo partners to overlay graphics, data and visualisations in real-time to live streams.
Social video drives audience engagement and since its release in 2016, Facebook Live broadcasts have generated 10x more comments on average than non-live video posts. This update to Grabyo Producer enables partners to capitalize on this increased engagement by enhancing live broadcasts with real-time comments and polls adding a new level of interactivity and encouraging feedback and audience participation.
The new framework supports both Grabyo and 3rd party applications, based on standard website development, which significantly enhances the flexibility and personalisation available to partners.
The first app to be released is Grabyo Social Wall. With this, Grabyo partners can moderate and insert Facebook comments into live broadcasts. Comments can be displayed in a list, overlaid as a hero image on screen or form part of a live 'ticker.' The comments are moderated through a separate web console, allowing digital producers to view any comments coming in from a specific Facebook post, queue and approve before being added to the live output. Providing a separate console for moderation and approvals is a key feature for teams with multiple users producing the live output.
Facebook Live polling
Grabyo Social Wall also enables Grabyo partners to create live polls and use either Facebook reactions or hashtags as a way to collate and populate results in real-time. The poll results are displayed as a live, animated graphic overlaid on the broadcast stream. Up to six answers are available to be mapped per poll.
Third party application development
Grabyo Producer will also allow 3rd party developers and data providers to build their own interactive apps, providing scope to incorporate a wide range of graphics and data services such as live score updates, RSS news feeds, real-time betting odds – the framework is flexible enough to support any data that can be rendered on a website. These live apps and graphics can be overlaid onto a live broadcast using the Producer console.
As more rights holders and broadcasters turn to live streaming and social video as a way to drive retention and engagement, both Producer and Social Wall provide the tools necessary to create engaging, interactive, social first broadcasts.
