Casey Miller, Director of Partnerships & Channel Sales, describes a typical day at Grabyo.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Casey Miller and I have been living in Portland, OR for 6 months. I’m originally from the New York City area, where I grew up and have lived most of my life. I’ve been lucky enough to work in the sports, entertainment and technology industries for over 10 years following my graduation from the Sports Management Programme at Syracuse University. (GO ORANGE!)
Outside of work, you will typically find me at some sort of sporting event (Timbers or Blazers) or binge-watching TV shows.
My favourite sports teams include New York Yankees, New York Giants, New York Rangers, Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Timbers and Manchester United.
What is your role at Grabyo?
I joined Grabyo in May of 2017, and was hired as Director of Client Services for the Americas team, working out of our NYC office. I recently moved out to Portland, OR and have transitioned to the role of Director, Partnerships & Channel Sales.
I am always on the lookout for partners who can compliment Grabyo’s product suite. Currently, I act as the primary point of contact for Grabyo’s technology and distribution partners, while responsible for developing and managing a pipeline of new business and revenue for the company through third-party partnerships.
I am mainly responsible for developing successful new business strategies with partners, creating measurable outcomes for the business.
What does a typical day look like to you?
Every day is different, and that is the beauty of my role at Grabyo. Typically I like to start the day with at least one cup of coffee to get the day started while catching up on my Twitter feed (Follow me! @OldBayBeard). For those who may not be aware, Portland is known for some of the best coffee in the US, so I am constantly trying out new coffee shops on a daily basis.
A typical day may start very early in the morning for me in order to accommodate calls and meetings with our team and partners all over the world. Having a flexible schedule is essential to my day-to-day.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Being able to work with such innovative teams and partners makes coming into work a blessing. Being at the forefront of innovative technology in the video content space, and helping to push the envelope in our space with partners daily, makes all the work worth it.
How has Grabyo helped you advance in your career?
I was lucky enough to be Mike Kelley’s first US hire after opening the Americas office in NYC. I was given the opportunity to help grow the team and build out our Client Services department for the Americas. Grabyo has given me the opportunity to grow in my different roles and allowed me to apply my skills and knowledge in every way possible, while supporting me to accomplish my professional goals.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Relationships are the most important part of the sports industry”
This was told to me by my professor’s in college as well as a few mentors of mine who had a ton of experience in the sports and entertainment world. This is such a small industry, and you never know if you will be working with the same clients and contacts later in your career.
I’ve had the privilege of working with several colleagues, contacts and clients at the various companies I’ve worked at throughout my career, and maintaining those relationships over the years has helped me grow professionally.
