Facebook unveils Grabyo as Facebook Video API partner

Ever since we powered real-time video sharing on Facebook for Sky Sports Transfer Deadline Day, we’ve been convinced that it would become a major force in video distribution. We saw our platform traffic explode as native video clips were shared, and watched in awe as they clocked up tens of thousands of Likes and millions of views.

Today, we’re delighted to reveal that Grabyo has been selected as a launch Facebook Video API partner for Facebook’s newly updated Video API. Having successfully integrated with the API, we are ready to help media companies, brands and other organisations publish native video. By working with Grabyo, publishers can share video clips from any live broadcast TV or IP video feed in real-time. They can also take advantage of all the new features now available via Facebook’s Video API – from content scheduling to geo-gating.

The combined power of social discovery, auto-play and viral distribution on Facebook is truly immense. So we’re delighted to be a Facebook Video API partner and we look forward to helping more media companies and other content publishers capitalise on the rapidly-evolving opportunity in social video.

Exciting times at Grabyo HQ!

Clip creation + sharing

  • Facebook Mentions support – including verified user flags (see video below)
  • Twitter @name auto-complete – including verified user flags (see video below)
  • Increased character limit for clip descriptions – up to 500 characters
  • Geo-blocking and geo-targeting for native FB videos (currently administered by Team Grabyo)
  • Improved drag & drop video upload for pre-recorded clips

Library

  • Library shows which platforms each clip has been shared to (eg. Facebook, Twitter)

General

  • UI enhancements

The addition of Facebook Mentions is particularly exciting as it increases the distribution and reach of clips. Followers of pages which are mentioned may see the clip in their timeline, even if they aren’t following the page which created the clip. We’ve created a brief video demonstrating how this works:

Increase clip views using Facebook autoplay + expanded Tweets

Both Facebook and Twitter have made significant steps forwards recently in increasing the user experience of video consumption when using their native players (at the expense of clips from other platforms such as YouTube) – driving up both clip views and engagement.

Grabyo Studio users are already taking advantage of these features to significantly increase the reach of their clips – such as Sky News across both Twitter and Facebook.

Below is a brief video showing you how autoplay videos appear in the Facebook news feed and expanded Tweets in the Twitter timeline.

Facebook adds Grabyo as official partner for real-time video and content sharing.

We are pleased to announce today that Grabyo has been added as an official Facebook partner for the Public Content Solutions programme. This initiative was launched in March 2014 to support the growing demand for real-time media solutions on Facebook – a reflection of the huge volume of conversation that takes place on the platform every day:

“Whenever something important happens in the world – from the Sochi Olympics to the crisis in the Ukraine to the results of the Oscars – people immediately take to Facebook to discuss it. With more than a billion people using Facebook and engaging in real-time conversations during these moments, it’s important for us to work closely with media companies to help them tell these stories.” (Bob Morgan, Partner Engineer Manager, Facebook)

Being added to this programme is a reflection of the great strides we have made this year to build Grabyo into a world-class platform for cloud-based editing, real-time video distribution and effective monetisation across mobile and social.

This new program provides partners with dedicated technical and business resources to help them build the best possible media solutions using Facebook and Instagram. We believe that working with these companies to develop expertise with social solutions from Facebook, Instagram, and others will enable broadcasters, publishers, and arenas to deliver the best overall experience to their fans and followers. (Bob Morgan, Partner Engineer Manager, Facebook)

Recent examples from our partners such as Wimbledon have highlighted the value of Facebook as a discovery platform for real-time video and a core channel for rights owners to drive rapid, viral engagement and distribution for their video content.

Facebook is a key part of the real-time video ecosystem and a key traffic driver for content engagement and consumption. With 1.3bn users and billions of conversations happening every day, we are proud that Facebook recognise the value of our platform and our focus on meeting the needs of broadcasters, rights holders and media owners as they make video social, mobile and real-time.
